The BIOXPARC "AGROPOLE DAKHLA" is an important component of the strategy the implementation of national development strategies of the second generation of agriculture to reverse the increasing gaps between production and demand in Morocco, food security, supply industries and boost exports by promoting agro business.
The BIOXAGROPOLE DAKHLA project is an international system mainly built on a logistic and management platform (a system built around a business platform) initiated by a private investor (PPP – Private Public Partnership) to facilitate the business- performance of Agro-Industry.
a. Farming Zones: Jatropha planting, Aloe Vera and Greehouse product’s
b. Logistic platform: Logistic &Industrial Park
c. Energy and supply platform: Financial, Marketing, Education, Security and Renouvelables energies Working for one of the BIOXAGROPOLE DAKHLA business is choosing a career in an environment where quality of life and nearby services help balance the professional and private life.
The BIOXAGROPOLE DAKHLA, develops intercropping plantations (Jatropha Curcas, Aloe Vera, Greenhouse products), in the Dakhla regions. The total project involves the installation of 30 lots of 1,000 hectares in the period of 5 years are foreseen cover an total area of 30.000 ha of degraded soils.
The project was developed by the research centers of the partner companies within the BIOXPARC project, and has the advantage of being energy independent, socially and economically sustainable, exportable in tropical areas all around the world where Jatropha Curcas and Aloe grows normally.
Regarding preferred soil type, Jatropha Curcas is said to be adaptable and can grow almost everywhere except on waterlogged land. It grows on gravelly, sandy, and saline soils and can be found in the poorest stony soil and even in the crevices of rocks. The preferred soil pH is between 6.0 and 8.0/8.5.
The plantations will be located near villages around the main road north-south connexion: the local workers will be trained for both sustainable agricultural and forestry practices and hired for all plantation operational activities.
The proposed project activity aims to plant 30.000 ha of Jatropha Curcas in the Dakhla regions. The plantations of the first project instance i.e. the areas which are to be validated in this Project Summary is made within the previously period 2016-2021 (total 30.000 ha) following the work plan. Plantation establishment and management are described also below. The proposed agro-forestry system will assure a proper management of trees in cultivated lands allowing the carbon storage by plants biomass and soils, consequently providing a contribution to the greenhouse effect mitigation and the reversal of soil degradation trend. The lifetime of the project activity will be 40 years.
